What is the Designer’s Jumpola?
I like to think of this big list of design-oriented links as a place of “instructional (and entertaining) introductions.” A carefully chosen list of people, places, things, and ideas, some of which, I hope to have the privilege of introducing you to for the first time.
They are carefully chosen and (I hope you will agree) organized in a way that makes them reasonably easy to use. And while I certainly don’t agree with everything they publish or promise, I think you will find most are worth seeing.
The idea for the page grew out of my own frustration in finding a useful “start page” for the design trade. Although Smarty is known as a “Template Engine”, it would be more accurately described as a “Template/Presentation Framework.” That is, it provides the programmer and template designer with a wealth of tools to automate tasks commonly dealt with at the presentation layer of an application. I stress the word Framework because Smarty is not a simple tag-replacing template engine. Although it can be used for such a simple purpose, its focus is on quick and painless development and deployment of your application, while maintaining high-performance, scalability, security and future growth.
